Entry #11 Blogs

Blogs

My blogging experience was okay. This is my second year blogging so I was pretty familiar with it. I don't take blogging really serious only in a sense that I'm careful on what I put on the internet. The one thing I learned is that I should explain more and try to expand.

I'd like to say that I enjoyed the blogs and they gave me more practice.

Extra Credit Blog

Food Inc.

Food Inc. is a movie released in 2008 that shows the audience a graphic look on the food industry.

As I said its very graphic. It has a more to the point message and this message is by no means sugar coated. The facts about hormones in chickens was very interesting and it crazy to think how big they actually get with the injections. The unfortunate part is they get so big that they struggle to walk some cant it was very difficult to watch.

Another scene that was very graphic was the animal cruelty with the fork lift and the cow it was very sad and gross. I don't know how industrial farmers like Carole Morison act so nonchalant.

I also found the use of corn interesting its crazy the uses they've come up with. Its now almost in every food product under the name high fructose corn syrup.

Overall Food Inc. is a good film if you the viewer want to really see the worst of industrial farmer. I encourage anyone with a strong stomach to watch this and maybe it will change your outlook on food and your diet for the better.

Entry# 10 Curly Chaos

Curly Chaos

Every one has problems and one of my biggest problems is my hair...
Curly hair is so difficult to deal with and its a constant battle everyday.
Its frizzy and poufy and I get mistaken for a younger age.

As a small child I remember my mom brushing my thick hair and the brush would snap in half. They were no match for my coarse mane. After a while my mom was so fed up brushing my hair she cut it off and its been a growing battle ever since. A lot of banter comes with certain types of hair and with mine people always use to say it "looks better straight," or "what else can you do to it to make it look better?"

Regardless I still love my curly hair. It drives me nuts almost everyday but that's what makes me ... me. I wouldn't change it for anything.

Entry# 9 Pink Slime

Pink Slime

I watched the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCqKl4Q3hW4
and read a few articles on "Pink Slime," and here my thoughts on it.

Pink Slime aka Ammonium Hydroxide a meat based product known as "lean finely textured beef." Well judging by the picture you couldn't even identify this pink slop as meat. It looks more like strawberry ice cream to be perfectly honest. Apparently the color comes from the blood and bone marrow being mixed into the meat.

I'm not particularly surprised that McDonald's uses this. I mean it is McDonald's and they don't seem to care about sanitary food products only profit. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that I saw this product in my mothers kitchen often:
Having know idea until recently that this is Pink Slime. That is disgusting and I feel like if they're going to put products like this on the market give people the respect and tell them what it is and then leave the decision up to them.

Entry #8 The Art of Sleeping

The Art Of Sleeping

Once you begin a hectic schedule its so easy to respect the beauty of sleep. Being a working student I know I appreciate sleep as much as the next person. Long nights at work and long study sessions. The first thing I do when I get home from school is pass out. Its a temporary relief of my problems and stress of the day.

Now that we've established how great sleep really is sleep is a beautiful thing but its funny how scary people are when they're sleeping. You have the person who can snore the paint off the walls and makes sleeping difficult for anyone in the vicinity. Resembling the sound of a bellowing monster.

Then you have the constant mover tossing and turning and occasionally thinks they're in a boxing match. My brother falls in that category many times when we were younger he'd kick me off the bed and flail his arms around nearly hitting me in the face.
Then there is the sleep talker and sleep walker.... that's me. Anyone who's slept near me has complained of my lethargic conversations. And on many occasions have woken up in different rooms I'm sure I look like something out of the Walking Dead TV series.

Consequently, everyone sleeps in different ways but as long as you're enjoying your sleep who cares !

Entry#7 Fresh

Fresh

Viewing this video was a real eye opener. I feel like their purpose wasn't to necessarily bash industrial farmers but to show positive alternatives. Like Joel Salatin showed that his farming method cost less and profits more and was more humane to the animals. Will Allen showed an inner city farm and showed that healthy options are always possible.

Watching this film also just reaffirmed beliefs I already have. I love food but I hate what industrial farms turn it into. I absolutely stand behind the belief that Americans should know what they're
eating because turning a blind eye doesn't make the issue go away. As cast Russ Kremer cast member of Fresh discovered when he ended up in the hospital because one of his Boars tusk punctured his leg and contracted a drug resistant bacteria he had created as an industrial farmer.

Overall it was a very well done documentary and it was very informative.

Entry#6 My Cat Dexter

 My Cat Dexter

My oldest cat had kittens and it was hard to decide which one to keep. Until I noticed the smallest kitten of the group. He was the most clumsy cat I had ever seen. He was always landing on his face and he was definitely the odd ball of the litter. Knowing that he had to be mine.

Today Dexter is the most clumsy cat I have ever seen and he is still an odd ball but he's picked up a few tricks along the way. I have taught my fat cat how to sit and lay down, he washes his paws in his cat bowl and he loves to eat weird foods.

There is never a dull moment with Dexter. He never fails to put a smile on my face whether he's sleeping on my head or trying to eat my food he's always entertaining. Dexter's weird diet consists of him licking my popsicles, eating my cucumbers, running off with my honey buns, and even trying to steal my Cheetos.

I love my cat and he gives my a new thing to laugh about every day. Some people are dog kind of people and some prefer cats. I love all animals but I know Dexter is by far the best pet I could ever ask for.

Entry#5 Wall-E

Wall-E

I recently watched a video that show a glimpse into the future from the kids movie "Wall-E."

The seen in the video shows what society is now. People are obese and sitting floating in chairs. They don't do anything for themselves they're assisted by robots and the constantly drink "food in a cup," because they're to lazy to do anything.

Something I found kind of funny was they were floating next to each other but they were to lazy to converse so they simply had a screen projected in front of them to talk to the person directly beside them.

This is relevant to society because people just sit around all day and talk over their computers or the internet so this seen in Wall-E has a deep meaning and an outlook on the life we know today.

Entry#4 A Day to Remember

  A Day to Remember

A day to remember I thought I write about it because its fast approaching. February 19, 2013..
the day my mother died.

My mother was a great person but she was definitely a character she love conspiracies whether it was bigfoot or aliens she had to know all about it. My mom also was a cat person. She always used to tell me if she made it to 70 she would be a little old crazy cat lady.

Its not easy losing someone you love but its inevitable and with her death I've become so strong. I take all the good memories and hold them close to my heart so this will mark the 2nd year and I hope as my life continues I will make her proud because my mother is my motivation.

Entry #3 Did you Know ?

Did You Know?

This video on you tube states a various amount of facts, statistics or, "did you knows."
I found many of these very shocking and some weren't so much. One that grabbed my attention was "For students starting a 4 year technical degree this means that... half of what they learn in their first year of study will be outdated by their third year of study."
Its amazing to me that technology moves that fast. Its kind of scary to think that those students are paying money to get a degree, and before they've finished its outdated and there is new information to obtain.

Another thing that caught my eye was "1 out of 8 couples married in the U.S. last year met online."
This is also jarring because technology creates a lack of communication in today's society and now people don't even meet "the old fashioned way," its all over the computer. I personally don't like the idea of online dating. Being that I'm not so trustworthy of a cyber relationship.

So while these facts are shocking and a bit scary it is good to know the world around you because, before you know it the world around you might be completely submerged in technology.

Entry #2 The Greatest Musician Alive?

The Greatest Musician Alive?

Many of you are probably skeptical reading this but don't worry this I just MY opinion on the greatest and of course for those who know me would know my favorite is ... Marshall Bruce Mathers III ... aka Eminem. Its funny because he's been my all time favorite music artist since the 7th grade.

It all started on the bus in middle school. I wasn't as technologically advanced as the kids in my grade. While they carried around they're MP3 players I had an old beat up walk man and the first cd that was given to me (by my older brother) was Eminem's "Relapse."

At first I was scared of the lyrics they were violent and explicit but after awhile I became obsessed and I loved him. Anything that had to do with him I knew it any album he released  bought it. Now many would dispute the thought of Eminem being the greatest artist but I can't help it. He's the only artist where I haven't heard something of his I didn't like. For that I say he's the greatest.

Entry #1 Calling all Bloggers!

Calling All Bloggers!

Recently I have read a few blogs and here are my opinions on them

The First is "What My Daughter Wore," by Jenny Williams

I like this blog because of it's simplicity the title tells it all its literally what her daughter wears. Instead of snapping a picture and posting it, this author draws pictures and displays them but it's an interesting take on a blog that's only pictures

The second blog I read was "The Gamelogical Society," by John Teti
I figure since I am sometimes caught with PlayStation 3 controller in hand for hours, that a blog on gaming would be quite interesting. Unfortunately this was not the case. I found it a very crammed blog and quite boring, it did not reach any of my expectations as a gamer.

The last blog I stumbled across was Harry McCracken's "Inky Fool."
This blog is very hard to understand and I didn't get the humor. This doesn't mean that it isn't a good blog I just assume the age difference probably plays a part. I don't believe his audience includes 18 year olds , making it for a lack of better words .. boring.

There is my opinion of these blogs take a look and see what you think.
